Didier Fiuza Faustino unveiled XYZ, his very first lounge, bar and restaurant for Zebrastraat conference center in Ghent (Belgium) “The XYZ Lounge is an intersection, a space where paths meet. It is the central point for exchanges between the visitors of the conference center of Zebrastraat in Ghent. It questions the contemporary notions of conviviality and physicality. During a time where social, sexual, and gender identities are upturned and questioned, how may one provide a space which is both neutral and sensual, a space free from social markers, without tailoring to a singular identity?” summarizes Didier Faustino. Galerie Michel Rein is proud to present the third solo show of Didier Fiúza Faustino until december 17h.  Didier Fiúza Faustino has been working for many years on the cusp of art and architecture, between space and sculpture. We know that, with this artist, the said barrier is capable of great contortions  which further aggravate the discomfort of the on straddling in this way. The theme of the exhibition MY CRAFTS is very precisely that of uncertain seating and denied commodities. Ten works made over the last sixteen years, which we have difficulty calling “chairs” as they mishandle not only our bodies but also and foremost the categories established by design theorists and other decorative art specialists. Ten works to be further considered as milestones in Faustino’s work, formations which appeared during his spatial work and were then integrated into this or that installation or associated with this or that building site. [2001] Love_me_tender-01

The architect Didier Fiúza Faustino has been shaking up reality in order to reveal intimacy since 2000. Examples include a passenger compartment for frail bodies undergoing a perilous migratory transit, a tiny basketball court perched mid-air at the end of a sculptural staircase and a three floor building for a single person located on a tiny square metre in the heart of the most expensive cities in the world. Faustino presents solitude among the multitude highlighting the need for community. He constructs for and around the body to present his real subject: society that must be interacted with at all costs. Lire la suite…
