If you like short stories, the April Vase can be summed up in a few words: designed by Sigolène Prébois and Catherine Lévy in 1991, the distinct April Vase comprises 21 tubes and is inspired by Japanese ikebana. Its shape is adaptable and enables each flower to be isolated and therefore glorified. The metallic rings slot together providing infinite flexibility for composing your arrangement. You can add or take away segments. It was an immediate success in France, the United States and Japan before joining the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in 1997. The April Vase remains one of the era’s most enduring icons. The story does however merit closer inspection… (more…)

Jean-Pierre Raynaud is the fifth artist to be invited by the MAMO (Marseille Modulor) after Xavier Veilhan, Daniel Buren, Dan Graham and Felice Varini. The fifth singular point of view given to the Cité Radieuse of Le Corbusier, its terrace and gymnasium having been redeveloped by Ora Ito into an art centre. « With the support of Longchamp, the MAMO continues its annual exhibitions, inviting world-renowned artists, able to master imposing spaces and to measure themselves to this unique and extra-ordinary place. Jean-Pierre Raynaud has been essential in my awakening to Art. His house of course, his stature and the whole of his oeuvre have shaped my artistic culture. » Says Ora Ito. (more…)

New place for art and design, Atelier Relief invited Mathias Kiss, David Brognon & Stéphanie Rollin and Ionna Vautrin (Tryptich mirror above) to share their vison of relief at the occasion of Art Brussels last week. Founded in Brussels by Farid Issa and Thomas Erber in 2015, Atelier Relief is a triple space, a place for creating, producing and exhibiting, where reliefs, sculptural variations of an image are conceived and produced. Images and volumes are per- manently moving back and forth at the Atelier. The image stops being a flat object, changes into a volume, a shaped space. The material diffracted into a volume, ins- talled on a wall, is presented like a painting. An innovative and unusual format that draws artists, photographers and designers in like a decisive breath.  (more…)

Exhibiting for the first time this spring in Milan during the Salone at Euroluce and Fuori Salone at the Brera design apartment, Atelier de Troupe, lead by artistic director Gabriel Abraham, draw from the ethos of Rudolph Schindler and 1920’s modernist design. True to his passion for ambiance, Abraham has designed a collection reflecting the aesthetic of the Schindler Chace House. A concrete building with Japanese-inspired sliding panels inspired by a trip to Yosemite, it was designed as a cooperative live/work space. The open floor plan seamlessly integrates the California landscape into the interior, setting a precedent for the architecture of Los Angeles. For their inaugural show, Atelier de Troupe will debut a large new collection of lighting and furniture reflecting this philosophy and showcase it within a set that is a reimagined version of this historic home.

Orbit table _ Jean-Marie Massaud

To celebrate the 56th edition of Euroluce Milan from April 4th to April 9th 2017, Nemo is proud to announce these new additions to our Contemporary and Masters Collections. These lamps are the dramatic result of bringing together talented world renowned designers and architects to create new stylish state of the art lighting fixtures. The Masters Collection has always featured a unique selection of icons realized by designers such as Le Corbusier, Magistretti, Albini and Perriand and architects like Massaud, Ricciotti, Miyake and Kalpakian. This year the Collection is enriched with a number of new editions. The Pierre Paulin Maison joins the Masters Collection with the new Elysée Collection. Originally designed for President Georges Pompidou in 1969, the Elysée Collection is composed of two pieces: a floor lamp and a wall lamp, both with a simple and harmonious design for the dining room, the smoking area and a library hall of the French Presidential palace. Jean Marie Massaud (image above) brings Orbit to the Collection. Orbit is a table lamp and a customizable pendant system that uses Nemo’s technological know-how to produce an ethereal statement with an essential ring that joins the functions of the lamp and the lighting source. The result is an ultra-technological and warm system. In cooperation with Nemo, the Italian Martino Gamper shakes lighting codes by mixing lighting with architecture to produce a poetical and delicate original composition. Martino’s work places him at the limit of design and art. Arihiro Myake is also bringing Titia, a suspended swirl of light.  (more…)
