Paris (II)

Early Belgian street artist, The Plug, contemporary to Zevs, the Invader and Banksy, is returning to the scene. This time around his attention no longer switched on to urban interventions, his playful project aims at a deconsecration of street art. “Lego is the epitome of childhood and of boys who refuse to grow up. Friends of mine began having children of their own and to welcome these new little friends, I started creating mini personalized graffiti tags as gifts. The Lego wall or the small train wagon are urban without being part of conventional urban culture, where street artists, baseball caps and skate boards are all appropriated by the mass. I enjoy this distance that allows street art to not take itself for art”. An immediate success amongst his friends, each birthday saw an order for a personalized Lego wall or train placed, to the extent to which The Plug decided to reactivate his presence online on Instagram (@__carne_asada__) and in the city, exclusively at Nous at 48 rue Cambon, the brand new concept store opened by former members of Colette crew. [FAUSTINO]Delete_Yourself-01

Galerie Michel Rein is proud to present the third solo show of Didier Fiúza Faustino until december 17h.  Didier Fiúza Faustino has been working for many years on the cusp of art and architecture, between space and sculpture. We know that, with this artist, the said barrier is capable of great contortions  which further aggravate the discomfort of the on straddling in this way. The theme of the exhibition MY CRAFTS is very precisely that of uncertain seating and denied commodities. Ten works made over the last sixteen years, which we have difficulty calling “chairs” as they mishandle not only our bodies but also and foremost the categories established by design theorists and other decorative art specialists. Ten works to be further considered as milestones in Faustino’s work, formations which appeared during his spatial work and were then integrated into this or that installation or associated with this or that building site. Social networks have fallen head over heels for the everyday adventures of this little, illustrated guy who looks upon reality from a tender, funny, poetic and off-the-wall perspective. The capital’s most popular blogs, from Télématin (that refers to him as the new web mascot), France24, to the Ville de Paris, have in the space of several weeks made Elyx a true emblem of Paris. The resonance is immediate, the significance of the different ELYXYAK accounts amounts to millions of hits at the height of the summer. A web phenomenon is out and about. Elyx shares his smile and his good humour with an ever-increasing number of subscribers, nearly 50,000 to date. The media has monopolized this phenomenon with LeMouv, Libération, 20 minutes, Corriere della Serra and others reporting the small character’s adventures and inception. Lire la suite…

In April, the Council Room at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, designed by Finn Juhl in 1951, will be reopened following its renovation. During the work, the Danish Ministry of Culture organised a competition to design a new chair to thus replace the famous FJ 51. The Council Chair, created by a designer, Kasper Salto and an architect, Thomas Sigsgaard, was chosen as the most appropriate to follow in the footsteps of the forefather of Danish Modern and will be presented by Triode at Designer’s Days (4th to 8th June).

Accurate work on volume and proportion, excessive yet specific expression, clean lines or figurative exploration: Alina Alamorean’s art is not looking to adorn anyone but steers wholly towards sculpture, reflecting her professed fascination for Constantin Brancusi, Ron Arad, Frank Gehry or Frank Lloyd Wright.  Lire la suite…
