Exhibiting for the first time this spring in Milan during the Salone at Euroluce and Fuori Salone at the Brera design apartment, Atelier de Troupe, lead by artistic director Gabriel Abraham, draw from the ethos of Rudolph Schindler and 1920’s modernist design. True to his passion for ambiance, Abraham has designed a collection reflecting the aesthetic of the Schindler Chace House. A concrete building with Japanese-inspired sliding panels inspired by a trip to Yosemite, it was designed as a cooperative live/work space. The open floor plan seamlessly integrates the California landscape into the interior, setting a precedent for the architecture of Los Angeles. For their inaugural show, Atelier de Troupe will debut a large new collection of lighting and furniture reflecting this philosophy and showcase it within a set that is a reimagined version of this historic home. Smarin will present Sifflu during Art Dubaï and Design Days Dubaï from 14 to 18 march. Sifflu is one of the Therapeutic Objects through Mechanics designed by Stéphanie Marin.  An individual peace pipe to learn how to breath, and expiring well for a better life. The idea of the object came when she saw the raise of electronic smoking devices.  As she resume “ The human being smokes or chews in an ancestral, cultural and social way. The recent expansion of new smoking ways, replacing the tobacco declared like a noxious substance, drove me to question about these practices, toxic according to some, and rooted in the habits of many. The breath is in fact, the center of the question. If the various smokers are used to very mechanical bad habits, certain non-smokers make it just as much, forgetting the importance for the health to breathe well. The fact of inspiring a lot, too much, and not expiring well, too little, make short cycles, create tensions, and maintain the stress.Lire la suite…

Let the party begin: Merci in Paris in May coinciding with D’DaysH.P. DECO in Tokyo in June; Please do not enter in Los Angeles in July and Comptoir 102 in October in Dubai during design week. The iconic April Vase vase by Tsé & Tsé is taking you on a trip around the world for a lavish, bohemian and creative anniversary, as only its two founders know how. Two limited editions of the April Vase and thirty or so creators (designers, musicians, writers, visual artists, etc.) will pay tribute to the extraordinary path taken by Catherine Levy and Sigolène Prébois. In 25 years, the two friends have established a Parisian style that is now a prerequisite in Tokyo, New York and Los Angeles. The functional precision gained from ENSCI (Parisian school of reference for which they made the cut), marked by their fantastic creative independence. Parisians obviously. Tsé & Tsé do as they please and succeed. No normal person born after 1965 can live decently without its Famished Tableware, April Vase, Windfall Hanging Vase or Cubist Garland. These successes shaped domestic style in the 90s and 2000s. All due respect ladies. Lire la suite…

Les Turbulences FRAC Centre - (C) Jakob + Ma cFarlane -Nicolas Borel_copyright free

“Augmenting the invisible” presents the first monographic exhibition of Jakob + MacFarlane in Germany. The multidisciplinary and multicultural architecture studio, founded by Dominique Jakob and Brendan MacFarlane in 1997, is one of the most experimental offices operating based in Paris, France. Projects like ‘Frac’ in Orleans, Restaurant ‘Georges’ at Centre Pompidou, ‘Orange Cube’ and ‘Euronews Headquarters’ in Lyon or ‘Conservatoire de Musique et de Dance’ in Noisy le Sec are results of their unique mode of architectonic form-making, in which the firm developed, through exploration of digital technology – both as conceptual tool and as means of production – a distinctive, individualistic signature that simultaneously redefines local context. The studio’s approach is a permanent attempt to reinterpret the context of a project. Each of their interventions witnesses an extreme interest and research for the site in order to develop a richer project response. Through this process a meaning, sense and resonance to the work is given and at the same time it creates an architecture that is open to a changing and evolving world. Their projects are resulting from their unique design-approach to reinterpret the projects context, its gridlines, topologies or physical streams and transfer them into digital form where it can be manipulated. Thus, this piece of tangible becomes part of the original matrix of the project.
