Until september 2014,  Into the Process is an off-site exhibition in the city to bring about solutions to concrete uses for the Design City Luxembourg Biennale 2014. It is specially designed for the municipal park Kinnekswiss in response to the ‘diversity’ of the users of this green zone to understand the circulation, analyse the users, offer different “zones” and solutions to sustain this green lung in Luxembourg. Until september, the town park will therefore be the venue for three teams of designers and architects with 3 avenues of thought: Lire la suite…

Paul Coudamy has landed the new Parisian showroom for the textile creator Lizybiz. With 170m2 to play with in one of the capital’s classic 19th century buildings, this young French architect has met the needs of a studio exclusively devoted to textiles. ”My priority was to make the furniture blend in with the walls, blurring the boundaries of the forms and therefore minimizing the impact. The unique nature of the ceiling work provides intimacy while placing the spotlight on it, it diminishes the feeling of height in places and subtly prevents the architecture from being intimidating without distorting it,” resumes Paul Coudamy who has produced a monumental, yet light installation suspended in the space, a functional structure as well as a visual object linking the Haussmann era with contemporary style. At 44, rue Faubourg du Temple in République José Levy unveils a second opus of the MaPharmacie concept initiated by Michael Zazoun (pharmacist by day, advice columnist without reserve by night with Enora Malagre on Virgin Radio). After Bastille in 2010, the duo is totally rewriting the rules for pharmacies, a reinterpretation where nothing is broken but everything is changed. Your local paternalistic shop, in standard wood and white tiles just enhanced with the pharmaceutical point of sale display loved by teens (the finest advertising images of healthy legs and buttocks), is summarized here in a functional and chic minimarket that combines a pharmacy, jewellers and urban nature. At the heart of the exhibition ‘Buildering: Misbehaving the City’ at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, two of Didier Faustino’s works help to redefine urban and physical borders, to express his transgressive vision of architecture and the misuse of codes regarding housing, thus exploring limits to physical and psychological freedom. Paul Coudamy has transformed a butcher shop in Bagnolet (France) into a private home. Renovating professional premises to change them into living accommodation is now a frequent occurrence in Paris and its surrounding suburbs, an exercise in architecture that requires thinking of new concepts of living, interchanging private life and public life. Blur is therefore a transparent environment made up of spaces that never totally discloses its fragile privacy. It is formed of a continuous succession of concrete and glass symbolizing a period that combines work and pleasure in a single movement. Lire la suite…

For his second solo show at Michel Rein (after The Wild Things, 2011), Didier Faustino invites us to step outside of our homes and penetrate an ambiguous world, which strangely resembles our own but is haunted by other versions of us bearing armour built from the materials of our own homes. FRAC_7895© Electronic Shadow 2013_BD

For almost 14 years Electronic Shadow has articulated the fundamental truth “Atom is data” in order to consider reality and virtuality in a mutual continuation formed of inextricably linked comings and goings. A life heightened by information, a virtual space yearning to take over everyday life to make it even more tangible and rich. While their bright, interactive intervention on Jakob+MacFarlane’s building for the FRAC Centre hails them as forerunners of the digital generation, the duo celebrates the 10th anniversary of “3minutes²” and of the first video mapping ever patented. A very real anniversary for the pioneers virtually lost in the reality. A furtive oxymoron, Electronic Shadow the artistic duo comprising Naziha Mestaoui and Yacine Aït Kaci, originated in 2000, the fruit of an encounter between two worlds which were until then not necessarily connected: architecture and new media. French architect Paul Coudamy has unveiled his design for an underground house called UNDERHouse. A small area of land, a house that takes up the greater part of the plot and vis-à-vis are common themes in dense urban surroundings. The UNDERHouse project explores an original underground architecture in response to these constraints. Lire la suite…

From 30th NovemberDidier Faustino fills the galerie Michel Rein with a remarkable installation, called We can’t go home again. Invited to enter an ambiguous world, a world strangely resembling ours and following a disaster that appears to have already taken place, we won’t go home anymore, haunted by the armour that this ‘other’ self has carved out of the carpet of his own home. We won’t go home anymore, strangely worried in front of our apartments and offices that have suddenly been made inhospitable. We can no longer cease thinking about the lives that animate our familiar environments and the fictitious boundaries that claim to separate art from our lives, the political decisions of our aesthetic models. And it is now the responsibility of Didier Faustino to haunt art galleries.

Didier Faustino, We can’t go home, from 30th November to 16th January, galerie Michel Rein, 42 rue de Turenne Paris 3rd, tel.: +33 (0)1 42 72 68 13, http://michelrein.com
