From 12th September 2015 and until 3rd January 2016, MAGASIN, Centre National d’Art contemporain in Grenoble, devotes an individual exhibition to the architect, artist and founder of Bureau des Mésarchitectures. Didier Faustino. A multifaceted blend of work combining architecture, performance, installation, video, design and scenography… This solo show called ‘Des Corps & Des Astres’ (Bodies and Stars), offers an individual as well as collective field. With a critical eye Faustino forms an exhibition structure like an incessant proliferation of shapes spanning the 1700 m2 art centre in Grenoble. These hybrid shapes or narrations question the organisation of social systems that govern exchanges between individuals and hence our ability to perceive the political system. In this profusion of signs, Faustino associates home environments and catastrophic landscapes the transgressive dimension of which affects meanings. Lire la suite…

Didier Faustino announces the validation of the ‘Fundación Alumnos 47’ project, a foundation, a library and an artist residency in Mexico City (Mexico) spanning over 1,000 m2. The building, the first construction of this magnitude for the Franco-Portuguese architect, is expected to open in 2016. The final design will be unveiled in September. It marks a turning point in his career as someone who has been renowned for over 15 years as a troublemaker par excellence in the international art and architecture arena, playing with boundaries in an unprecedented fashion between the two disciplines.  Lire la suite…

Opulence

At Palazzo Litta next month during Milan Furniture FairAndrea Branzi and Michele De Lucchi present sixteen “social environments” based on the concept of misery, a subject always expressed in arts, cinema and literature but basically alien to design culture. The restaurant is the epitome of simple cooking: 50 m2 encompassing 20 covers, as well as a piano for the chef and his assistants. Preparation and tasting takes place seamlessly, directly with the product and the Michelin-starred chef’s team. It is, in the most literal sense, a dining room. Lire la suite…

Pullman Tour Eiffel just opened with the second sample of Mathieu Lehanneur ’s “Business Playground” concept : reinvention of the meeting room as a perfect illustration of the “blurring” of private and professional life. This room reflects the brand’s “Work hard, Play hard” motto as well as its guests’ lifestyle. It combines performance and pleasure with a fresh take on the traditional aspects of a meeting: a meeting table designed like a poker table, a private area for informal conversations or breaks, and a cabinet of curiosities. All these features are designed to stimulate creativity and reinvent international hospitality codes. After the success of first Playground at Pullman London St Pancras, the concept is gradually rolled out across the 80 Pullman’s hotels network.  Lire la suite…

Designing and manufacturing go hand in hand. This fundamental dexterity that links brains and hands is now available to the research sector, notably thanks to the reactivity and efficiency of design and digital production tools. Designing function and form are no longer two successive, potentially separate stages overseen by different teams, but the work of one single leadership in the same space and time: design is finally central to the company’s design process. A shining example with the i2R laboratory, an incubator of innovation that marks a departure implemented by the EDF, the interior design of which has been entrusted to the French studio GGSV. When the French public sector breaks with received ideas to equip themselves with flexible and visionary research tools. Lire la suite…
