Huawei announced Mathieu Lehanneur as Chief Designer

MATHIEU LEHANNEURChinese technology giant Huawei announced the french designer Mathieu Lehanneur as Chief Designer. In doing so, the global player affirms its strong strategic positioning in product design. Mathieu Lehanneur will lead the  Aesthetics Research Center (ARC) unveiled this week in Paris. Heading up this research and innovation unit comprising around twenty designers, Mathieu Lehanneur will inspire and bring coherence to each branch of the brand’s products. From image to object and from product to shop…

He will unify all points of contact between Huawei and the user. The aim is for all Huawei products to have a unique and symbolic hallmark, on an international level. N°3 worldwide for Smartphone sales, Huawei has chosen the world’s capital of luxury for the location of its design and research centre. Huawei’s objective is to build on French excellence in terms of industrial and artistic creation, as well as on French expertise in the luxury sector.

The ARC’s purpose is to creatively, aesthetically and strategically stimulate Huawei’s engineers and designers as a whole to adapt the group’s vast technological expertise – over 2,000 patent applications per year – towards the progression and aspirations of users.

On the forefront of international design scene, Lehanneur is one of the few designers in his generation able to embrace a multitude of technological, functional and formal fields of activity. His innovative objects and architecture combine design, technology, science and art to achieve maximum welfare for its users.

We are experiencing a new turning point in our history. After the industrial and digital revolutions, we are now entering the era of the interpersonal revolution! Technology is no longer just between us. It is with us and on us. It simply needs to be shaped,’ says the designer.

Worldwide known for his work on new ergonomics and new uses, as well as for his ability to embody the period with products, this new assignment is a logical move for Paola Antonelli (design curator at the MoMA, NY). She describes the designer as ‘the champion of intellectual agility in the field of contemporary design.’

Invited to the prestigious TED Global conference to share his design vision, he says: ‘Chairs and objects are no longer enough to satisfy our comfort as complex human beings. Living well begins with the desire to live better and integrates all of our environment’s parameters: the air that we breathe, the food that we eat, the love that we receive…All these factors must be taken into account when creating an innovative product.’

Mathieu Lehanneur will continue to pursue his own ventures in parallel. He has several ongoing projects in the world of luxury, pharmaceutical, restaurants, art and transport. A boat and an electric bike will be announced soon…
